info About This Department
The Economic Development Department (Idara ya Uchumi) drives UKUEM's mission of economic empowerment for Muslim communities and the general population of Zanzibar. Recognising that donor dependence and lack of income-generating projects are key organisational challenges, this department leads efforts to build financial sustainability.
Core responsibilities include running all income-generating activities to sustain UKUEM's operations, establishing and managing economic projects, creating employment strategies for UKUEM members, sourcing local and international job opportunities, managing Zakat and Sadaqa collection and distribution, and strengthening member contributions to the UKUEM fund.
- Target: Increase people who are self-employed or employed by 10% by Year 5.
- Target: Increase organisational income by 15% by Year 5.
- Strategic Activity: Develop fundraising policies to ensure financial sustainability.
- Strategic Activity: Establish reliable income-generating projects across Zanzibar.
