Department of Education and Da'wah

UKUEM's Education and Da'wah Department (Idara ya Elimu na Dawah) is the cornerstone of the organisation's work. Its primary goal is to provide quality, ethical and moral education to the Zanzibar community — addressing a persistent challenge of moral decay and inadequate learning facilities.

The department oversees and manages all schools and educational institutions owned by UKUEM or those operated by Muslims who have requested UKUEM support. It also supervises mosques, Madrasa za Mitaani (street Islamic schools), Vyuo vya Qur'an (Qur'an colleges), Islamic community gatherings, and Da'wah activities across Zanzibar and beyond.

Key strategic activities include constructing new school buildings and boarding facilities, equipping classrooms with modern learning tools, conducting in-service training for teachers, implementing extra-curriculum activities to reinforce ethics and Islamic values, improving school management efficiency, and procuring school buses for students and staff.

• Target: Increase qualified students from 45 (baseline) to 380 by Year 5.
• Target: Increase enrolled students from 20 to 60 by Year 5.
• Target: Reduce unethical and immoral cases in Zanzibar schools by 50% by Year 5.
