UKUEM Launches Mosque Tourism Programme in Zanzibar

UKUEM, working with the Office of the Mufti of Zanzibar, launched a Mosque Tourism Programme in June 2024 at Msikiti wa Jamii in Mazizini, Zanzibar.

The programme gives visitors to Zanzibar the chance to tour a working mosque and learn about Islam directly from local guides. In its first months, 70 visitors took part — 65 from mainland Tanzania and 5 from Canada — receiving guided explanations of Islamic practice and Zanzibari culture.

UKUEM's 2025 plan extends the programme to two further mosques in the northern and southern regions of Unguja.
