About Us

UKUEM's Katiba (Constitution) sets out its objectives:

1. Mobilise Muslims to understand their responsibilities and take part in their own development.
2. Encourage Muslims to form small development groups.
3. Help those groups access capital for their economic and professional projects.
4. Provide professional advice on setting up and evaluating projects.
5. Collect Zakat and Sadaka from Muslims, and support from donors locally and abroad, for social welfare.
6. Develop madrasa, mosques, and preparatory and other education.
7. Provide Muslims with religious education and help them pursue further learning.
8. Support students who have finished compulsory education toward livelihoods and self-reliance.
9. Establish and own media — radio, television, internet, newspapers, magazines, and Islamic books — to educate Muslims.
10. Establish, own, and run schools from preparatory to secondary level, colleges, and supplementary education.
11. Work with Muslims and Islamic institutions for the development of Islam and Muslims.
12. Establish institutions — education funds, financial institutions, and enterprises — that help Muslims and the wider community economically and educationally.
13. Establish, own, and run income-generating investments to fund UKUEM's work.
14. Carry out any other activity that benefits Muslims and society, without contravening Islamic teachings.

A Zanzibar where every Muslim family has the education, faith, and economic means to be self-reliant — the standard UKUEM's founding objectives set for its own work.
